App Spotlight: Speek brings hassle-free conference calls to iOS - kawakamioweend1964
The days of rushing backward to your desk with great care you can set in the lead OR union a conference bid are over.
Back in October, I told you about Speek, a hassle-free conferencing service that was browser-settled. Nowadays, the troupe unveiled Speek for iOS, an app version of the table service that leaves the browser–and your PC–out of it.
For those unfamiliar with it, Speek works thusly: You sign on astir for an account, choosing a custom username that'll double Eastern Samoa your unequaled URL. For example: Speek.com/pcworld, or Speek.com/CES2013.
You can execute this account setup right inside the app; it's literally a deuce-step process. And you can use your existing Facebook or Google+ account as credentials if you prefer.
To set up an fast call, you invite contacts via text or e-mail. The app also lets you make over an "event" (i.e. a call kick in the prox).
When it's clock time for the birdcall, participants click the link or respond to the SMS invite. From in that respect, Speek dials their number, and presto, the person who answers is immediately on the address. At your end, you merely tap Start A Scream, waiting for your iPhone to ring, and so restitution to the app.
Once the call is live, you can go steady visually who's connected and even who's talking. You can also add callers on the fly and share images letter-perfect from your photograph library, a decent touch.
When the call is over, Speek immediately emails you a call history that details who was on the yell, how long information technology lasted, and any materials shared.
If I have a complaint, it's that those you invite via text induce to manually enter (operating room at least copy and paste) the Speek number and your room name (like the aforementioned "pcworld"–but at to the lowest degree that's easier than around lengthy numeric computer code).
Mostly, however, Speek joins CrowdCall in oblation an abundant way to make over and/or join conference calls from your smartphone. Which is better? Short resolve: Speek is completely free (for now), spell CrowdCall limits the number of free calls per solar day and the length of those calls.
In one case you've tried out Speek for yourself, run into the comments and let me know what you think up of information technology–or if you think up there's a better solution out there.
